3 Best Trends in Marketing Videos: Simplicity, Shock and Shopability

Business marketing videos are packing YouTube, and we’d like to document some of the best trends we’re seeing in this week’s “Trends in Video” Hall of Fame.

1.  Simplicity

Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” It is with that thought that we bring you the video you are most likely to have already seen, and winner of the “Simple is Beautiful” award: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dInYmYI7Q20 .  When I die, please somebody make me a video like this. Enough said.

 2.  Shock

“Go Beyond the Cover” is a great example of risk-talking – even with a business audience. When cosmetics company L’Oreal first unveiled this video at a conference, attendees stopped and stared at the pale disrobing character in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mIBKifOOQQ . “You just have to tell a story worthy of being told,” said L’Oreal CMO Marc Speicher, noting that the video “opened a new audience segment and grew the business.” Psst, this video has been viewed 18 million times. Happy Halloween.

  3.  Shopability

Target – one of the best-branded companies out there – takes product placement over the top with the 3-part mini-film “Falling for You.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWuMOKkMQSQ

Starring Kristen Bell, Nia Long and Zachary Abel, the film actually lets viewers shop the characters’ looks while watching the videos. Way to raise the bar Target!
